OTHER WAYS TO EXPLORE

How to find out if a major is right for you?

  • Meet with an Exploratory Studies advisor for an Exploring Majors appointment
  • Complete CSUMyMajors.com, a 5-10 minute assessment, to discover some “best fit” majors available at CSU that reflect your interests and abilities. Remember, assessment “reports” or “results” are just a starting point – not an answer – in your exploration journey.
  • Meet with the advisor or faculty members/professors in the department you’re interested in – look for them on the department’s website
  • Get involved – organizations, clubs, & other activities are great ways to find out what you like & don’t like! Try out involvement advising through SLiCE to find out what fits for you.
  • Check out the CSU Career Center in LSC 120 for drop-in hours (10-2) for major exploration & career path connections or schedule an appointment with a career educator through Handshake.
  • Need some online resources? The CSU Career Center has tons of tools – everything from learning about your interests to crushing a job interview!
  • Consider getting a job! Employment – whether on or off campus – can teach you valuable lessons about yourself and what you are looking for in a career.
  • Take classes or sit-in on a class – look up classes through RamWeb’s course look-up & the CSU Catalog
  • Trying to make a decision but finding it to be more confusing than you thought? Check out this resource our Exploratory Studies advising team created about your decision making processes.
  • Reflect. Reflect. Reflect. What do you like? Not like? Why? What do you value? When do you feel at your best? What is most important to you in a major or career? Why are you here at CSU? etc… THINK DEEP – smarter, not harder.
  • Do some myth busting about being in college without a declared major (yet) and being intentional with your exploration.
  • Get inspired! Read this Huff Post article & watch this TED Talk.
